5 Things Friday

Before we get started, guess what!!!!! This is my 100th post...holy cow..can you believe I have posted 100 things?!?! This is milestone, hopefully one of the many first milestones for this little blog and me!

This is a new weekly post where I will be sharing 5 new things about me every Friday. I think this is a great way to help you get to know me as well as a lesson for me on learning to open up to others. I hope you like the idea and will join me every Friday (or everyday!).

1.  I believe that all 3 Hanson brothers have grown up to be good looking studs...and I'm never afraid to hide my HANSON pride! I'm sad that I will be missing their concert this year....hopefully Betsy or Marks find another Hanson buddy!

2. I met my husband at the same bar my sister met hers, which is across the street from the bar my parents met at.

3. For many years I wore a size 9 & 1/2 shoe and then *POUF* my feet were a size 9!

4. I own an acoustic  guitar (for 8 years now) but have no idea how to play it. It's still one of my prized possessions and I probably would save it in a fire.

5. While swinging in my yard as a little girl I would make up songs and sing them at the top of my lungs to the skies. I believed I was going to be a BIG star someday!

For The Love of Trees

If you have been reading for a bit, you may know that I am in love with trees. They are strong, beautiful, unique, and represent a lot of things I hope to represent in my daily life. I obsessively am taking pictures of trees, finding each tree and branch to be individually awe inspiring.

Well, this weekend Dave and I took part in our first civic engagement here in Newcastle. We attended the GIG to Save the FIGS at the local civic Park. City council is trying to tear down the fig streets on Lamben Street (which is behind the park  and in front of the art gallery and library) for "traffic" reasons (there may be different reasons, but this seems to be the main one).  Have you seen a fig tree? These are BEAUTIFUL, magnificent trees that tower over everything below them providing a sheltering canopy.

To tear down trees that have been here for more years that we have been alive because of traffic reasons is sooo sad. Lamben Street is not that large of a street (maybe due to the trees) but that is okay because nature is more important than getting somewhere quicker. Plus I'm one for even not having a street, I think making the section of road into a pedestrian path would be great! Could you say no to these great figs??
*Not on Lamdon Street* But look at how BIG they are!
Since I love trees and love taking tree pictures, I wanted to share a few that I have taken that I especially love.
*Also check out this post *

Don't you want to sit under here and read a book?

I love how trees change with the season

Cute little Bottle Tree
Trees with blossoms are a double whammy!!
Won't you join me under the tree?
Trees know no boundaries and can grow where ever, as should we.

Thanks for letting me geek about about my tree love!
I hope you liked it as much as I liked
posting the photos.

Favorite Photos of Last Week

Hey everyone! I am hoping to start a weekly (fingers crossed) post with some of my favorite pictures taken during the week before. This way I truly reflect on the pictures Dave and I took during the week and the memories that are associated with them. Hopefully I will be able to share a little bit more of who I am and the memories that we are creating while here in Australia.

Without further ado, here are my favorite pictures from the Week of September 4th:

Nights spent on the couch with our blankets

Dave likes to take pictures of me taking pictures.
This is the first time I have actually liked the picture he took!

This picture captures how relaxing and calm the Chinese gardens are.

This makes me giggle out loud.

Dave wanted to do a puzzle...and Bieber it was!

In memory of those we have loved and have lost.

All you have to do is walk through.

These were my favorite flowers while at the garden.

Nature is overwhelmingly beautiful.

Oh! What a Darling Harbor...

After Dave and I spent hours at the Chinese Gardens we went wandering around the city a little bit. We walked a short distance to Darling Harbor, to see what it was all about.

The area is one that is able to capture a medium level of the hustle and bustle with a large dose of relaxation. You can grab a seat near the harbor and gaze out into the water, eat or shop and one of the many many shops in the area. Since Dave and I try not to spend toooo much money we just walked along the harbor hand in hand watching the sky change colors while the sun disappeared. (Plus, this is the best way to take in ANY place!)

Don't you just feel like dancing with these birds?

The whole things is made of Legos! -Aquarium Entrance
After walking around Darling Harbor and seeing all that we could see, we decided to walk over to Hyde Park before it got to dark. Hyde Park is now one of my favorite parks EVER, it is like the Central Park of Sydney. Trees line the sidewalks and make canopy above you, they have a large chess set you can play with, fountains, did I mention the trees already..ooohhh my! While in Hyde Park we quick walked over to the beautiful St. Mary's Cathedral, which Dave told me was the oldest Catholic church in New South Wales.  When I first saw it all I couldn't take my eyes off it, I just started walking closer to it to get a closer look.

We saw this little guy while taking pictures of the Cathedral! Check out the
neon head feathers!
Now that is was beginning to get dark we had to walk to our final landmark of the day, the Anzac Memorial. The Anzac Memorial is in honor of all Australians who have serve their country. Due to arriving late, we were not allowed to view the inside, but that means we get to come back to Hyde Park again!

Dave and I will be heading back into Sydney next week
and I can't wait to see what we will
discover next!
